3 Newsletter Platforms I Recommend - & 3 That Are Active NOPEs

I have feelings about newsletters.

And that’s because in the 15 years I’ve been coaching, it’s the only marketing tool I’ve used consistently.

That’s right - back in 2008, my marketing plan consisted of blogging, Twitter (!) and newsletters.

While blogging is a thing of the past…

And I jumped off the Twitter train 6 years ago (after amassing 9k+ followers!)...

And I’ve been on-and-off various social media platforms since…

My newsletter has never wavered, and it’s what I recommend 95% of my clients use for their marketing.

It helps that, on average, email marketing (aka newsletters) have a return on investment (ROI) of $36 for every $1 spent, according to Hubspot’s The State of Marketing 2023 report!

Did I convince you yet?

If so, stop yourself from going down the Email Newsletter Research Rabbit Hole (that thing is deep and tough to crawl out of!) and see the 3 (or 4!) to check out below.

Here are the 3 platforms I recommend:

  1. I'm now telling my Launchers that MailerLite should be their first newsletter platform. It seems to be the most user-friendly at the lowest price for the most bells and whistles, and can grow with you.

  2. I'm also still a fan of ActiveCampaign, because I had a great experience with them for years before I jumped to Kajabi (just to have everything in 1 place). I changed newsletters often as my business evolved, so it says a lot that I stayed with Active Campaign for so long - and that I wouldn’t have left if I didn’t want everything under 1 roof.

  3. Everyone's hopping on the Substack train, and those who use it seem to like it. I think it's best for those who want to try to monetize their newsletter, but it can be worth checking out and seeing if it fits your needs!

And 3 that get a NOPE from me:

  1.  Squarespace emails don't have tagging OR sequences which is SO DUMB. It's why I don't recommend it even though I always suggest using Squarespace for your website.

  2. Mailchimp was my go-to rec for yeeeeears - until it decided to offer zero support for its free plan and charge for all the sign-ups you’ve ever had, even if they unsubscribe. Like, what?! Ridiculous.

  3. I’ve heard horror stories about ConvertKit that I’ve since blocked out. All that I’m left with is DON’T.

And 1 that fits somewhere in the middle:

  1. The entrepreneurs I know who use FloDesk looooooove FloDesk, but it's more money and it's all about the design - which can actually be detrimental to open rates and deliverability. But if you care a lot about design and the cost doesn’t bother you, it’s worth looking into.
